Toby Gerhart (born March 28, 1987 in Norco, California) is a running back and an outfielder at Stanford University. He is a consensus All-American running back and is considered a top prospect in the 2010 NFL draft, having won the Doak Walker Award in 2009. He was also the runner –up for the 2009 Heisman Trophy. Toby won 1276 points in the Heisman voting, coming in second to Mark Ingram, Jr., who won 1304 points; the 28-point margin was the closest vote in Heisman history. Gerhart holds the Stanford records for most 100-yard career rushing games at 20 and most career touchdowns at 44. He had a breakout senior season in 2009, setting numerous records. Toby was a two sport standout who also lettered three seasons in baseball. He was a key contributor on the Stanford’s 2008 College Worlds Series team. Toby Gerhart had a record-breaking career at running back at Norco High School coached by his father! He set a California state record for rushing yards with 9,662 yards in his career. As of December 2009, Toby holds the third highest career total of running yards in national high school history! He led Norco High School to the CIF Division 5 Southern Section football championship. Gerhart was named the Gatorade High School Player of the Year for the state of California and was named California’s MR Football by Cal-Hi Sports. Gerhart also played baseball and graduated as a valedictorian of his high school. In 2005 Toby was selected by the National Football Foundation as a scholar-athlete in the Riverside County Chapter and his brother Garth was also selected to the NFF Riverside County Chapter in 2007! Toby Gerhart family resides in Norco-he has five younger siblings who all excel in sports and school. Garth 21, is an offensive lineman at Arizona State: the 18 year-old triplets Kelsey, Teagan and Whitney play softball: and Coltin, 14, is the quarterback of his eight-grade team and graces the basketball and baseball teams.
