Rocky Ford was born in Helena, Montana, and raised in the town of
Grand Island, Nebraska. He attended Central Catholic High
school and lettered in 5 sports. From 1961-1965, Rocky served
in the United States Marine Corps. He received the Meritorious
Mast award, for outstanding duty and service while, stationed on
Okinawa.
After the Military, Rocky attended Kearney State College earning a
Bachelor of Science degree, in Education. In 1970 he moved to
Southern California to begin teaching, coaching, and his referee
career!
Rocky’s teaching and coaching career
began at Nogales High School, in La Puente. In 1977, Costa Mesa High School
invited Rocky to be the commencement speaker at their graduation. During his 30 years of
service he was the head football coach at Hesperia and Moreno Valley
High Schools.
Many of Rocky's teams received CIF notoriety, and many awards,
including 5 playoff appearances. In 1994, Rocky was selected as Riverside
County Coach, and coached the South Team during the All Star Game.
In 2000 Rocky retired from teaching and coaching, but continues to stay
”between the lines” as a football referee.
This year Rocky has completed 50 years of basketball officiating
(1960-2010). Over the years he officiated all levels of basketball
from Junior High School to Professional?
Rocky is a lifelong tennis player and is a ranked USA Senior in his
age division! |
